Imagine being told that you cannot have needed surgery because the hospital has run out of surgical suture, or that your child cannot have an emergency operation unless you buy the suture and bring it to the hospital. This scenario takes place frequently in poor countries.
Through Global Links' high-impact Suture Donation Program, member hospitals that serve the poor receive an annual allotment of the specific types of suture they request. Operating room nurses and inventory personnel from hospitals throughout the U.S. collect current surplus suture for Global Links to distribute overseas.
Thanks to Global Links' extensive network of volunteers, this program provides hospitals throughout the developing world with a reliable source of high quality, life-saving suture.
