Global Links sends 40-foot shipping containers of medical equipment and supplies that are designed to meet the specific needs of each recipient institution. The contents of each container are based on a thorough needs assessment undertaken with the hospital. Global Links staff visit each institution whenever possible, both before and after shipments. Every box of supplies as well as every furnishing is hand-picked by Global Links staff.
If you would like to sponsor a container for $15,000, please contact our Deputy Director, Angela Garcia, at agarcia@globallinks.org. Contributions to our general funds will also make it possible for Global Links to make shipments to those in need overseas.
A typical Global Links shipment contains:
Furnishings have been examined, cleaned and repaired before shipment. All equipment has been checked to make sure it is functioning properly and is packed with all necessary accessories, operating and service instructions, and disposable supplies. It is the goal of Global Links that all materials be ready for immediate use.
The hospitals or health institutions listed below have approached Global Links for assistance, but are in need of sponsorship to cover the costs of providing a large shipment.
Hospital San Juan Bautista – Jalpatagua, Guatemala
This brand new 60-bed hospital in rural Guatemala has requested help to equip their pediatric, surgical, and ob-gyn areas. A shipment from Global Links would make at least one of their 3 operating rooms functional.
Hospital Dr. Enrique Aguilar Cerrato – La Esperanza, Honduras
This 94-bed hospital lies high in the mountains of Honduras and serves a local population of +250,000. They attend over 200 births a month, and many times women in labor have to share a bed due to lack of space. A shipment from Global Links could provide them with a much needed fetal Doppler, more beds, bedside stands, and such basic amenities as blankets and sheets.
Hospital Dr. Juan Manuel Galvez – Gracias, Honduras
This 119-bed hospital in the beautiful colonial town of Gracias, Lempira, is in desperate need of a delivery table, bedside stands and overbed tables, a colposcope, a fetal Doppler, and blood pressure units. A donation from Global Links would significantly improve maternal and infant care for the 200+ births they attend monthly.
Hospital Bertha Calderon – Managua , Nicaragua
This large maternity hospital and gynecologic oncology center in Managua, Nicaragua, suffers from the lack of essential equipment as well as the most basic supplies. A donation from Global Links would include gloves and an urgently needed biological hood to protect the nurses while they mix hazardous chemotherapy medicines. Lacking this equipment, the nurses put their own health at great risk to care for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Help us improve conditions for both the staff and the patients at this hospital.
