What we do

Global Links is dedicated to reducing the amount of still useful surplus that is needlessly thrown away in the U.S., while helping to provide hospitals in developing countries with the ability to better treat their patients and expand services.

To meet these goals, Global Links recovers unused medical supplies, surplus equipment and furnishings from U.S. hospitals for distribution to hospitals and clinics that serve the poorest segments of the population in developing countries.

Even more important than the volume of goods we ship is the care we take to send recipients only items they can readily use. Volunteers and staff spend hours sorting and processing donated materials to meet recipients' needs. Hospital furnishings are cleaned and repaired, or refinished if necessary, to give these items a second life. This material is then made available to targeted recipient hospitals through three programs:

Through the Suture Donation Program, recipient hospitals around the world receive an annual allotment of suture, a critical medical supply that is all too often lacking in hospitals around the world. Global Links is the only recovery organization with a dedicated suture program in the United States.

Through our established Country Programs, Global Links develops ongoing relationships with healthcare facilities in specific countries. Recipient institutions receive 40-foot sea containers of carefully selected medical aid chosen to meet their specific needs. By developing relationships with specific institutions or regions of a country, Global Links works to make a sustained impact on the capacity of recipient institutions to deliver quality healthcare to their patients.

Each year, Global Links undertakes a few Special Projects, one-time donations of 40-foot sea containers of medical aid for targeted institutions in need of support.
